Maps
The Library of Congress has a great collection of maps from 1500-2003. They are mostly of the US, but there are some good ones of London and Paris as well. They have really high quality downloads suitable for print. I made one that was 40" by 50".
I'm a big fan of things like these. My favorite map is one from the late 1800s of the Chicago L system. It was made before they filled in the lakefront, so the park isn't there yet and the trains run right along the water. Too much fun.
On the bottom: Cut aways of my home town and my high-school from 1867.

Hrm. The MrSID image viewer they have for hte Mac requires 9 (or Classic) and the map I have is only available in .sid format:

Yeah, most of the maps are only available in MrSID, though they say they can be had in tiff. The viewer sucks, and the Photoshop plug-in that they had has since disappeared (classic only as well). It's worth using classic though if you still have it around, the maps are great.
