Buying a Pipe
I was working downtown today and as I was leaving I thought I would stop by Iwan Ries to check out their pipes. The place looks like an old men's club when you walk in. Everything is layered in dark woods and lit with low lamp light. The even had the old school phone booths. The ones that are like little closets built into the walls, with little seats. I was the only one under 50 there.
I ended up choosing a nice GBD. It has a fairly simple smooth wood grained bowl and the neck has a gentle sloop to it. I also picked up the requisite tools, pipe cleaners and a tamper. All within my gift certificate's limit.

I wrote to you the other day re Iwan Riis....
They do give pipe smoking lessons there - I was told to make an appointment with Rex or - 'can't recall the other guy's name. They're both supposed to be long-time, experienced pipe smokers. You're in LA now? Did you stay with the pipe? Hope so! I'm a devotee of the briar and hope you are.
Any photos of your pipes on-line?
