Dear Ralph Nader

Following is my letter to Ralph Nader, who is considering running again this year. Let him know what you think!

I beg you, do not run this year. your last campaign was honorable and raised important issues that were being over shadowed by a nominee who was letting himself be forced into the middle. Gore was following Bush's lead. Bush wants a tax refund, I'm for a refund too. America doesn't like a follower and it showed.

This year, there are several good and strong Democratic candidates who I believe will set the tone and the issues for the next campaign. Bush will be following, trying to defend his abysmal track record here at home, and his failed attempt to change foreign policy. (I like to think of it as failed, we shall see).

It's a shame that America is a two party system, and it's a shame that not all voices are heard. But if you run, we will be listening to Bush for 4 more years. There is a difference between the parties, and we have seen it over the last couple of years. Let us have a clean fight. Don't come attacking from the left. Give the Democratic Party room to move there on its' own.

John Kerry supported the imperialist war against Iraq and he supports the occupation of Iraq.

Dear Mr. Nader,
Four years ago I was shocked by your decision to run for president despite knowing that the race was going to be so tight. While Bush was lying about his real agenda it was obvious from his record in Texas that he was an ultra-conservative who had been supported by the richest and the most powerful, a group he identified with and whom he supported. He did not care about the environment.
There is proof that 20,000 children die every year from deleterious toxic effects of pollution on the environment and that children are the most vulnerable to illnesses.
This week the EPA has lowered standards on lead and mercury that will allow the corporations to continue their murderous ways.
We must stop Bush for the sake of the world and expecially the children!
No matter how many votes you might get they will not be votes for you but votes for Bush. You must care about the children and our world.
I once considered you to be an intelligent and courageous man. But an intelligent and courageous man thinks about the consequences of his actions. A wise man considers the end product. If your goal is to enhance your ego despite the detriment to the children who will be affected by the result of another four years of runaway destructive policies then you are no better that Bush. This time Bush will have no one to fear. With a conservative Republican majority in both houses of Congress and in the courts he is already a dangerous dictator. Your votes will assure four more years of rampant legislature that will only help the rich.
Please reconsider. Those well-meaning people who will vote for you obviously do not have the intelligence to comprehend the results which will be in contradiction to their desires.

Dear Mr. Nader,

We are asking you to carefully consider your decision to join the predidential race this year.
We feel this year the Democratic party has some strong candidates who stand a good chance of beating President Bush. We fwwl that your entrance
would take away a significant number of votes from
the Democratic nominee.
Although we have always admired and agreed with many of your stands on the environment and other critical issues, we feel this would be a bad dexision for you to enter the race this year.
We respectfully entreat you not to run this year.
Thank you.

RE: NADER
I am listening to Ralph Nader on Meet the Press and I feel sick. He's saying "doesn't care about the American people"...which he doesn't see as self-referential.

He's asking for volunteers for his campaign to get on state ballots. I'm sure there are Republicans who will be more than delighted to help him. He is clearly delusional and blind to who would want to help him achieve his spoiler goals. He is just as self-serving in stating his motivation: he is painting himself as a spokesman for true democracy and a saint who has worked for the people. Where has he been between presidential elections? Why has he not tried to enter government to change it from within through seeking elective office in Congress? His awakening on a 4 year cycle to enter presidential politics, especially with a clear understanding of what his last entry into the race accomplished, is more than a bit suspect. Is he a Republican dupe?

With him on the ballot we might be doomed to 4 more years of Bush--we need to stop this candidacy!

Dear Ralph, I love ya,man, agree almost in toto with your views. Welfare has become skewed toward corporations, and threaten to destroy the middle class, and a Democrat win only slows the slide. But I must be getting old because, at this place in time (and remembering my vote for you in 2000), I'm forced to accept the lesser of evils, instead of voting my heart. jon@downeast.net

Mr. Nadar,

I don’t believe you are running for President again. The country has endured four years of the Bush administration because you siphoned off enough votes from Gore in Florida to hand Bush the 2000 election.
Now you are planning to do it one more time. Do you honestly think you can win? But you can help Bush get another four years. How long have you been a closet Republican? Why do you want Bush re-elected?
You certainly cannot help the Green Party, the Democratic Party, the environment, or any organization trying to defeat Bush in November by defusing the Bush opposition this way.
Please reconsider.

Ralph, You are only going to help prolong the worst presidency in the history of the U>S>.How you can possibly run when you don't have a tinkers chance infuriates my husband and I. By 2008 with Shrub in this country it will be ruined. Thanks a lot.
You are an egotistical maniac. To think I used to feel you were doing this country so good, but that was back in the 60's and 70/s . Between you and this messiahanical conservatives the U.S. is doomed.

To all those who cry "spoiler",

I understand your concern - we are all united in our utter contempt and disgust with the Bush administration. But I think a large number of otherwise very intelligent people have become blinded by their hatred for George W and have subsequently lost their mind. How easily the blame falls on Ralph for spoiling the last election. Instead of questioning why the Democratic Party didn’t defeat Bush by huge margins, you complain that Ralph ruined a close race. I have news for you all, IT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN CLOSE.

Ralph Nader is going to provide an excellent alternative to the Democratic candidate – I find that I agree with him on almost every issue so therefore I will vote for him. To me, the Democrats seem to just be a milder and slightly more liberal flavor of Republican - "Diet Republican with Lime".

Instead of being outraged that Nader is infringing on Democratic territory, perhaps you should focus your energy and outrage on the fact that almost half of all voters do not vote – there is plenty of room for the Democratic Party to grow if it just had the creativity and the will.

If this election is close, and Ralph’s small percentage of votes affects the outcome, don’t blame it on Ralph – blame it on the bungling Democratic Party.

Thanks,

There is a mistaken assumption that any vote for Nader is a vote that would otherwise go to a Democratic candidate.

Hate to break it to ya, but t'ain't necessarily so. The Democrats do NOT speak to the same constituency that Nader does.

GO NADER!!!!!!!!

We don't live in a parliamentary system. This is a presidential election. Splitting the anti-Bush vote will elect Bush. A vote for Nader is a conscious, fervent, Halliburton-hugging act of Bushlove. Stop pretending.

Well everyone is telling me "anyone but bush", so I'm voting Nader.

If bush is such a big bad nasty why are so many people voting for him? I find most people who are voting for Kerry are not going to their conservative friends and saying "how can you vote for bush" instead they are going after their liberal friends and saying "a vote for Nader is a vote for bush"

You want bush out of office, get to the conservative, (traditionaly white male) base that makes up Bush's consituencey. Not the small minority that wants troops out of Iraq, and less corporate control over people's lives.

3rd parties move the 2 parties. Republicans in the time of Lincoln threatened to make a 3rd party because they felt Lincoln wasn't radical enough on the slavery issue. Lincoln was calling for a 40 year plan, while the more radical element of the republican wanted freedom now (granted it was still only for black men, but it was a start). History records who won that little contest.

Dear Mr. Nader, Do you recall Don Quixtoe, if part of your liberal(?) education? As he fenced with windmills, was he not not convinced of his
ordained mission? Was he not impervious to those around him who tried to convince him of a more sensible view? Was he not alot like you? Sure, I wish that we were agreeing with the rest of the civilized world on global warming, cutting of old growth timber, etc. etc. etc. But, get real, my pre-sixties friend, we are facing anhihilation of all that's dear, while you crow for perfection. Do you understand the concept of get real...or is that reserved for another world? Are the pristine oil fields of Canada worthy of sacrifice for your almighty 2%? Will you sleep easier at your vote total as we drift into another illegal war with a third world country as you edge victory towards the Republican Machine?? Hey, guess what, there are a view of us who don't like outsourcing, the
raping of our existing ecological laws, tax breaks for the rich, etc. We're on the Planet Earth, neighbors to you. Get real...think about your narcissist candicacy. Are you tossing a bone to Bush, because he sure will knaw on it? Should you be the deciding factor in the national convention, will you sleep well? ...because if you turn the election, I wish you exactly what you deserve! Johnny
